About the studio

Two kitchens, one way of cooking.

Kitchen Captivation is run by chef Naina Oberoi — trained in Mumbai, shaped by a decade in Dubai's fine-dining rooms, and built around the belief that the best meals are cooked in front of the people eating them.

"I never wanted to cook for a room of strangers. I wanted to cook for the eight people actually sitting at the table — and know their names by dessert."

Naina started in her grandmother's kitchen in Mumbai, formalised her training at a hotel school in the city, and spent the years that followed working stations in Dubai's tasting-menu restaurants — learning the discipline of a professional kitchen without losing the instinct of a home one. Kitchen Captivation is the version of cooking that sits between those two things: technically exact, but never distant.

The journey

How the studio came together

2013 — Mumbai

Culinary training begins

Formal training at a Mumbai hotel school, followed by a first kitchen posting learning classical technique alongside regional Indian cooking.

2016 — Dubai

A decade in fine dining

Moved to Dubai to work stations across three tasting-menu restaurants, eventually leading the pass on a multi-course seasonal menu.

2021 — First private table

Cooking for eight instead of eighty

A friend's birthday dinner, cooked at home for eight guests, became the first booking of what would become Kitchen Captivation.

2023 — Two studios

Dubai and Mumbai, side by side

A second home studio opened in Bandra, Mumbai, so the same chef's-table format could run seasonally in both cities rather than one.

Today

430+ private tables and counting

Chef's tables, classes, and catering now run year-round across both studios, with the same chef at every stove.

What guides the kitchen

Three things that don't change

Small enough to know your name

Bookings are capped so every guest gets an actual conversation with the chef, not a wave from across the room.

Provenance over plating

A dish earns its place on the menu because of where the ingredient came from, not because it photographs well.

Honest about what's not possible

If a request doesn't suit the kitchen or the season, that's said upfront rather than compromised on the night.
